Vipers Hide in the Sand: Oberyn arrives in Kings Landing (Open)

A long journey had left Oberyn Martell at his destination; Kings Landing. The Dornishman unmounted his Sand Steed, a hearty and beautiful beast with a chestnut coat. A small party had met to greet the party of Dornish nobility.

As customary Oberyn greeted the deployed and handed over his horse and handed over his horse to a groom.  He did not like the city of King’s Landing, too crowded and with beggars, thieves, and degenerates all about.  The Red Keep was nicer, and his favorite thing in the Capitol was nestled in the bosom of the Castle, his dear sister Elia.

He made frequent visits to see her, whenever he could spare the journey.  He volunteered to be an ambassador for Dorne when she had married, just so her could see her.  Elia was a treasure, it was only right she was married to the Dragon Prince.

Oberyn followed the welcoming party into the castle and he was shown to his quarters in order to was up before seeing the King, Prince, Princess and all the rest of them.

Lewyn, of course, had requested to be a part of the party that welcomed Oberyn to King’s Landing. It had proved to be a mannered, formal events and formal events had never been to Lewyn’s taste. (That he had chosen an occupation expressly tied to ritual was simply… one of those paradoxes of his life that he had learned to reconcile.) He chose to seek out his nephew fairly soon after, when the commotion had died down somewhat. He always looked forward to Oberyn’s visits to King’s Landing. Princess Elia always seemed so much brighter in the weeks after.

Also, Lewyn enjoyed Oberyn’s company on its own merits. His nephew could be counted upon to bring Dornish style humor and wit to King’s Landing; a city that sorely needed it, in Lewyn’s opinion.

When Lewyn was shown into Oberyn’s presence, Lewyn reflected that this must be akin to looking into a mirror that showed Lewyn’s past. Not that they looked much alike (Lewyn and his older sister had resembled different branches of the family.) But Oberyn wore bright colors, as Lewyn once had, and rarely schooled his emotions, as Lewyn now tried to do.

“Greetings, Oberyn,” he said, smiling.

Oberyn had been greeted in his quartars by the friendly face of another Dornishman.  With a smile Oberyn opened his arms: “Uncle Lewyn!”  He embraced the other man in a quick but firm manner.  “How are you? “  He gripped the mans upper arms not quite breaking contact.  “It is wonderful to see you!”

When Oberyn was either pleased or unappeased with any persons presence, he would always let that individual know,  Of course he was more delicate at court and with the King.  But even a Lord or Lady would know if they had insulted Oberyn Martell.

“Well enough,” Lewyn said with a laugh. “The castle’s been a chaotic mess the past fortnight, but I know I prefer a tourney to guarding a small council medium.” The latter involved seemingly endless tedium. But he knew better than to vocalize that thought aloud. It kept the kingdoms in order, and Lewyn was grateful for it, but… there was a reasons the gods had made his sister the elder.

“How are your daughters? I trust they’re well?” Lewyn asked, making no effort to lower his voice to discreet tones. When he had moved to King’s Landing, he had been shocked by the ways in which non-Dornishman mistreated their illegitimate children. Despite his wild and sometimes reckless ways, Oberyn took care of his own. Lewyn had met the Sand Snakes (as they were beginning to be nicknamed) once, on his only journey to Dorne since becoming the Kingsguard. But he remembered them, and his other grand-niece Arianne, very well.

"They are very well, Obara is growing to be a fine warrior.  Nym wished to accompany me here, but I had to deny her."  The reason was obvious, no bastard child was ever smiled upon in Kings Landing.  "I hate denying beautiful Nym something she longs for so badly, she has always wanted to attend the King’s Court."  Oberyn looked slightly aggitated at the though but brushed the matter aside.

"Tell me, when may I see Her Grace the Queen, my sister Elia?"  He turned to a basin to dip his hands in the crisp water, and dampened his face with the droplets.  "Am I presentable enough?"  He asked Leywns opinion.  "I was last in King’s Landing when my nephew was born."  He wiped his hands with a linen towel murmuring: "Too long."  Placing the toiletries aside he turned back to Lewyn presenting his attire.  He wore traveling clothes and had removed a leather jerkin.  His boots were stained with dust but he had changed his cloak for starters.  He would have changed to meet any other of the court, but he wanted to see Elia badly.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

It would make sense to start in Dorne or at the Ball.  Perhaps I can start at the Ball head down to Kings Landing for the Tourney and then back to Dorne :)

How does that sound?

Where to start?

OOC:  I need some help starting as Oberyn, being in Dorne is kinda hard, unless anyone wants to have him as a guest somewhere?  If ANYONE wants to rp I am up for it!  Really looking forward to hearing from someone!

(Also~

1.  Has the rp officially started?

2.  Where are we starting, the beginning of the Rebellion?)
